Revolution in Music
Hakan Ali Toker, who has performed in 28 countries so far, said that the concert heralds a new step in Atatürk's Music Revolution and said, “Polyvocal music has taken root in our country through the initiatives of the great leader. However, what he wanted was not only for the polyvocal works of the West to be performed in our country, but also for Turkish music to represent our nation by obtaining a polyvocal, contemporary structure. While many valuable works have been done in this field for 100 years, one thing has always been missing: the distinctive notes of the Turkish music alphabet, which are called 'comaic voices'. These sounds that are not present in the Western music system and therefore cannot be played by musicians whose education is limited to Western music, are included in Turkish works performed by our symphony orchestras not taking it.”
With the understanding of music education in our country becoming more flexible and inclusive in recent years, the number of multifaceted musicians who assimilate both Turkish and Western music techniques has become more flexible and inclusive. Toker added, “But with an orchestra established from such musicians a symphonic, polyvonical
and an uncompromising prognostic Turkish music is possible,” he said. On Tuesday, May 17th, the first time such music will be heard in Istanbul CRR Concert Hall. Toker composed a special “Turkish Rapsody” of 5 parts for this concert. This work, which is kneaded with elements of Turkish art music and Turkish folk music, authentic Komali sounds in our authorities will be heard in all instruments in a symphonic orchestra with a polyvical and homogeneous understanding It has the distinction of being the first work -has examples written for smaller groups by our beteques such as Ozan Yarman and Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol before-. After the first voice of Turkish Rhapsody, the second half will feature popular Turkish art music songs organized by Toker. In this section, voice artist Bora Uymaz and countertenor Kaan Buldus will participate in the orchestra, which consists of the strings İstanbul Strings group. Toker, this idea had been in my head for years but I didn't know where to find enough support to accomplish such a comprehensive project. The dream came true when the index came across me!” He said.
